He cursed himself as he watched the bus drive off. Screw my paranoia, he thought. As usual, he had gotten off a stop earlier, this time however, it would cost him a 300m uphill journey. It wouldnt be that bad except that it added onto the 700m journey that he already had to make. He trudged up the pavement angrily, but he had to. He wasnt going to wait for the next bus. So he walked on. He had to climb the accursed hill. It was a pavement beside a busy road, yet as he walked, he felt utterly alone, in the bustle of civilisation. He had to get home, and that thought angered him. Yes "home", that cesspit of gloom and stifling atmosphere. He had no freedom there, he had no freedom anywhere he thought, as he kept walking. As he kept walking. He looked up at the tower in the distance and a thought struck him, he was walking forward, yet not going anywhere, only back to that place, he would have no peace while he was there. He had freedom out here, out in the world yet....
He kept on going, despite everything, after all he had no where else to go. but it would be simple just to turn away, just disappear and start afresh. Get a second chance. The slope steepened and finally, he stopped. He just stopped and stared. The wind began to rustle the leaves of the giant trees along the road. They began to fall in huge numbers, forming a beautiful scene before him, a kaleidoscope of colour. Or so he would have thought, if he hadn't been too overwhelmed by his troubles to care. He couldnt walk away he knew, couldnt leave this miserable life behind..
He walked on........
