Dark. But not completely. You never get complete darkness in the city.
A quick survey of the lights of the block outside his window told him it was morning.
Damn, he thought, the prospect of school looming in his mind. He had the urge to know what time it was. He always did.
Not resisting this time, he stumbled over to his handphone and checked the time.
5:30.
Good he still had half an hour...
He flopped back onto his bed and waited. He got rest for a while, but then he started to get uneasy as the seconds stretched into minutes...and hours. It was too long, he thought. They should be up by now. The silence and darkness bred his paranoia as it reached ridiculous heights. What if they forgot to wake me. He thought, fear in his brain. He dismissed those thoughts, and tried to rest again. but he couldn't. He cursed his own stupidity as he tossed and turned, but his irrational fears continued regardless.
Of course, a simple solution would be to check the time again. But he knew, he knew that the moment he decided to get up and look at it, the time would be 5:59 and it would be time to get up. His life sucked that way. So he resisted. Fighting against his own retarded mental torment.
Suddenly he heard footsteps. And he listened for the flush of the toilet that would come from his brother's adjacent room that would come without fail upon his awakening. 1 minute...2 minutes... and at 5 minutes he could wait no longer, they're leaving he thought in his confused mind and he jumped out of bed, somehow still having enough sanity to open his door silently.
Darkness greeted him. the living room was lit only by the lights of the city. He crept towards his brother's room and opened the door.
Nope. still fast asleep.
Feeling extremely extremely retarded, he closed the door and went back to his room. But as he did he heard his mother's voice call from the living room, what are you doing, its time to get up.
A resisted the urge to let out a tortured scream and curse the heavens and instead made do with smashing his head into his pillow in disgust.
His life kinda sucked at times.
