"There was this funny thing I saw on the television the other day," the heavyset man beside me said. Let's just call him Dan for now. I had always known Dan, one of life's stranger constants, forever running around with a sense of intrigue and child-like wonder that seemed to make a mockery of his huge frame.
"Past life regression, ever heard of it?" he said, with heavy dramatic emphasis on the first three words. He glanced at me, his eyes full of excitement. Naturally his child-like wonder would be a lot more interesting if not for his fascination with all sorts of arcane pseudo-sciences. It was aliens one week and mind-reading the next.
"Well I've certainly heard of it," interjected Sarah with mild interest, "so its reincarnation now eh? Don't you think you're taking this new age thing a little too seriously?"
"It isn't the same thing." Dan muttered with a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Just cause all you folk decide to lump everything you call strange you cannot disprove into one big category of things called 'new age nonsense' doesn't mean they're all related."
"Past life regression is a technique that uses hypnotism to allow people to remember what happened their past lives."
"So naturally you had to come to us. Hmmm let me guess Dan, I'm the psychologist, so you want Rodney over there to be your test subject?" quipped Sarah.
I cleared my throat and put my drink down. "Sorry fellas, but I'm not going to let myself be set aside and be hypnotised just for the sake of your crackpot theory Dan. Besides, judging from the way my luck runs, I was probably some sort of animal in my previous life, so unless you can speak cow..."
"Guys I'm serious about this." He said imploring Sarah with his eyes. Not me of course, he knew better than to try.
She sighed, and rolled her eyes.
"Oh alright Dan."
So that was one week ago. And that's how I found myself sitting in Sarah's plush living room across town. She certainly knew how to choose her leather. They had worked it out rather quickly, Sarah had already checked up the techniques and would hypnotize Dan, who if was lucky would recall a slice of his past life.
As for me, having done the obligatory google search upon reaching home, I naturally knew what was going to happen. Depending on the skill of the hypnotist, and she was good at what she did, the subject undergoing hypnotism would have a good chance of triggering a memory, a higher chance if they believed in the possibility of reincarnation. This was going to be fun.

I'll finish this some other time. I promise!
